About Sarah

Welcome to Sarah Strom Counseling and Yoga. Some things are hard to put into words, especially when it comes to our well being. I guess I would first like to admit that I didn’t become a counselor just by dreaming of becoming a counselor. It was actually never on my radar and something I probably resisted for quite some time, but life took me down a path that brought me here. When I was 25, my dad went into recovery and during this time, I began to do my own healing work. I did individual therapy and family therapy. I’ve been on the other side of the sofa. I know what it feels like to make the first call to a counselor in hopes of “feeling better”. It can be scary and intimidating at first, especially when you aren’t sure what to expect.

Here’s the deal though, the expert in the room is actually YOU, my job is just to help guide you to finding those sources of strength, power, empathy, compassion and love that guide you back to the part of you that is already whole.

We all come to counseling for different reasons. Sometimes we just feel a sense of anxiety and we don’t know where it comes from. Other times we might have an idea why we feel the way we do, but we also say things like, “Oh well, that happened years ago.” Something I have learned is that pain really does not know the concept of time, so this idea that we should get over something simply because it happened a long time ago is just a way of minimizing how we feel. With that being said, we are all right where we are meant to be, learning… and learning not easy. Whether you are a parent, teenager, brother, sister, stepparent, grandparent, male, female, wife, husband one thing is true, we are all in the process of learning what it means to be human and be in relationship. Yes, I said relationship because I believe that through counseling we are often working on the relationship that we have with ourselves and others. We make mistakes. We get hurt. We hurt others. With all of this comes emotions! And Feelings! And those can be really hard to process through by ourselves, especially if we feel like we keep having the same ones.

So, I am here… I don’t believe I can “fix” you or “heal” you. I have no magic wand, but what I do have through years of school are tools. I graduated with my bachelor’s in science from the University of Denver in, then graduated from the Integrative Institute of Nutrition in 2015, and finally, I graduated from John Brown University with my Master’s in Mental and Clinical Health in 2019.

I love working with PEOPLE! Families, teenagers, parents, grandparents, young adults, adults.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered. I believe that my job is to help you uncover what you already know and let go of what no longer serves you. I like to work this approach using an integrative theoretical approach that emphasizes systems theories, and schema therapy. I believe in using tools from many different theories to create a holistic approach and more importantly, find things that work and help YOU!
